Will colouring my hair damage it ?

If you opt for a permanent hair color, it is necessary to utilize hydrogen peroxide (developer) to lighten the hair. This procedure elevates or opens the outer layer of the hair, known as the cuticle, to facilitate the entry of color molecules into the inner cortex, depositing the color. It is crucial to execute this process correctly, as improper handling can potentially harm the hair.

Damage occurs when an incorrect level of peroxide is used or when the hair is frequently subjected to color changes, resulting in over-processing.

On the other hand, opting for a semi-permanent or demi-permanent hair color can enhance shine and nourish the hair, but the effects are temporary and typically last for only a few shampoo sessions.

Types of Hair Colors:

• semi-permanent

Semi-permanent hair color does not incorporate peroxide, which means it lacks the ability to lighten the hair. Consequently, it can solely darken the hair and cannot achieve lighter shades. The color's longevity is limited to approximately six to twelve shampoos as it merely deposits color on the external layer of the hair. Opting for semi-permanent color is a suitable option if you have concerns about potentially disliking the chosen shade. • Permanent

The color is deposited between the cuticle and cortex layers of the hair, allowing it to last longer compared to semi-permanent options. Typically, demi-permanent color can endure anywhere from 12 to 26 washes before fading.

When to refresh ?

The length of time you should wait before recoloring your hair with a different color depends on the condition of your hair.

It is advisable to seek guidance from your hairstylist to explore your options. If your hair is damaged, it is generally recommended to wait until it recovers or until the current color grows out before attempting a new color treatment.
